Casablanca: Arrest of Extremist Supporter of ‘Daesh’ Allegedly Involved in Preparation of Terror Project to Seriously Undermine Public Order

The operation to arrest this individual, aged 29, was conducted in Casablanca by a brigade of the special force under the DGST, said a statement by the BCIJ, adding that the searches conducted have resulted in the seizure of computer equipment (digital media, cell phones, SIM cards, CPU and two laptops) which are currently subject to the necessary digital expertise.

The arrest of the suspect is the result of the distinguished security cooperation between the services of the DGST and U.S. intelligence, added the statement, noting that a joint operation has identified the person concerned and revealed his terrorist project.

According to preliminary information from the investigation, the suspect was looking for safe routes to terrorist organizations, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa and the Syrian-Iraqi scene. He also conducted reconnaissance visits to identify certain security checkpoints with a view to attacking them and using their service weapons in terrorist operations.

He was placed in custody to complete the investigation conducted by the BCIJ under the supervision of the Prosecutor’s Office in charge of terrorist affairs and this, in order to reveal all the possible connections of this terrorist project and to determine its ramifications both inside Morocco and abroad.

This security operation underscores, once again, the importance and efficiency of preventive operations to neutralize terrorist threats, while highlighting the effectiveness of close cooperation between the services of the DGST and U.S. security and intelligence services in the fight against terrorism and extremism at the international level, concluded the statement.
