Supreme Council for Youth and Sports (SCYS) First Deputy Chairman, General Sports Authority (GSA) Chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) President HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa stressed the importance of developing the health sector.
He highlighted the need to launch qualitative programmes that contribute to enhancing citizens’ decent living conditions, thus achieving the visions of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, with the follow-up of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
He stressed the importance of the National Genome Centre for future generations, noting the contributions of the Government to enhancing citizens’ quality of life.
He commended the steps undertaken by the Ministry of Health to activate the role of the center in order to achieve the goals for which this pioneering national initiative was launched.
The National Genome Project aims to study the genetic mapping of the population in Bahrain to learn more about the genetic factors that make the Bahraini population vulnerable to certain diseases.
The project will also contribute to devising diagnostic methods that suit the genetic makeup of each person. individual in what is called personalized medicine.
HH Shaikh Khalid directed the GSA executive body step up cooperation and coordinate efforts with those concerned in the National Genome Center, with the aim of participating in this national project, by including all players and athletes to participate in the genetic examinations of the center.
He also directed to study the genes of talented players and former champions and including them in databases and then analyzing them, in order to search for future champions by using the work of genes, which allows identifying physical capabilities through DNA analysis.
He stressed the importance of the move which will contribute to the development of sports, discovering talents and honing their talents, based on the results of analyzes and information extracted from databases using the latest medical technologies.
Based on HH Shaikh Khalid’s directives, GSA Chief Executive Officer Dr. Abdulrahman Sadiq Askar held a meeting with Amjad Ghanim, Head of the National Team for the Implementation of the National Genome Plan, Head of Public Health Laboratories at the Ministry of Health and the accompanying team.
They discussed a joint action plan that engages various sports institutions, including clubs, federations, bodies and committees, in the National Genome Project.
The two sides agreed to cooperate and continue holding meetings and identifying the appropriate mechanism that contributes to achieving Common goals.
