NABLUS, Wednesday, May 24, 2023 (WAFA) – A Palestinian Wednesday evening sustained a gunshot injury and dozens others suffocated in an Israeli attack on Burqa town, northwest of the occupied West Bank city of Nablus, according to a local activist. Ghassan Daghlas, who monitors Israeli colonial settlement activities in the northern West Bank, said that Israeli settlers, under army protection, went on a rampage in the western part of the village, attacking civilian houses and setting a cattle barn and the surrounding olive grove on fire. He added that young men from the village gathered in an attempt to confront the assailants, who opened fire in the air, hitting a young man by a live round. Israeli soldiers intervened in defense of the assailants, showering the villagers with tear gas canisters and causing dozens to suffocate. Settler violence against Palestinians and their property is routine in the West Bank and is rarely prosecuted by Israeli authorities. Settler violence includes property and mosque arsons, stone-throwing, uprooting of crops and olive trees, attacks on vulnerable homes, among others. There are over 700,000 Israeli settlers living in colonial settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
