Culture Minister Seeks to Enable Citizens to Enjoy Regular, Local Cultural Life

Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid has expressed his desire to implement a strategy so that every citizen can enjoy a regular and proximity cultural life.

“We want to implement a strategy, region by region, province by province, so that every citizen can enjoy a regular cultural life of proximity, whether it concerns books or another cultural sector,” the Minister told Moroccan weekly Telquel.

Responding to a question from the magazine about the transfer of the International Book and Publishing Exhibition (SIEL) from Casablanca to Rabat, Bensaid pointed out that regardless of its location, this major event attracts people from different regions of the Kingdom, noting that the move was part of the vision of making Rabat the African Capital of Culture.

In the same context, the minister referred to the creation in Casablanca of a hall dedicated to children’s and youth literature, in addition to the establishment with the region of a global partnership aimed at enhancing cultural activity in Greater Casablanca.

In this respect, the minister explained that this global activity includes one-off events, such as festivals and international fairs, as well as daily cultural activity throughout the year, offered by the city’s various cultural establishments.
