Presidential spokesman: Netanyahu’s remarks will not bring security and peace

RAMALLAH: Presidential spokesperson, Nabil Abu Rudeina, said the remarks made today by the Israeli minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, would not bring security and stability. He stressed that the only way to achieve peace and security is through recognizing international legitimacy and the right of the Palestinian people to establish their independent state, with East Jerusalem as its capital. He added that the continuation of the US-backed Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people from Rafah to Jenin would further inflame the region, stressing that no regional or international efforts would succeed in containing this explosion in the situation. The Presidential spokesperson said the real goal of the occupation was to change the status quo and national identity of Jerusalem and violate its Islamic and Christian holy sites. 'But they must be well aware that Jerusalem is the gateway to peace, security and stability.' He said all the attempts to contain the explosion before stopping the aggression are futi le, stressing that the region is paying the price for the policies of Israel supported by America, which will not succeed in undermining the Palestinian national project. Netanyahu said today following the shooting attack at the Allenby border crossing with Jordan that: 'In the Middle East, without the sword, there is no forever.'
