UN Secretary-General calls the killing and destruction in Gaza the worst he’s seen

NEW YORK: UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said that the destruction and killing in the Gaza Strip is the worst he has seen during his current term in office, which he assumed in 2017. He added, in a press interview, that the United Nations has offered to monitor any possible ceasefire in Gaza, recalling the presence of the "United Nations Truce Supervision Organization" in the Middle East (UNTSO). He pointed out that Israel's acceptance of this offer is "a weak possibility", so he described the involvement of the United Nations in any role in the future of Gaza as "unrealistic". The UN Secretary-General stressed the necessity and importance of an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. He affirmed that he has never witnessed such a level of killing and destruction as witnessed in Gaza in the past few months. He stressed that the two-state solution is the "only way" to end the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and that there is "no other alternative" to it. Source: Palestine News and Information Agency – WAFA
