Conference in Toulouse Highlights Historical and Legal Foundations of Moroccanity of Sahara


Toulouse: A conference under the theme “Moroccan Sahara: The struggle for territorial integrity”, organized by the Consulate General of the Kingdom in Toulouse (France) and led by the Director of the Royal Institute for Research on the History of Morocco, Rahal Boubrik, highlighted the historical and legal foundations of Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, before an audience of researchers, elected officials, representatives of local authorities in Toulouse, and members of the Moroccan community established in the Occitanie region (South of France), Boubrik analyzed the historical and political process that led to the recent adoption of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2797, enshrining Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara, noting that it is “the culmination of a multifaceted process spanning more than a century”.

For her part, the Consul General of the Kingdom in Toulouse, Manale El-Bouchairi, placed this academic meeting in the diplomatic context marke
d by major developments and increasing international momentum in favour of Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara, under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.

In this regard, she recalled France’s position, which considers that the present and future of the Sahara fall within the framework of Moroccan sovereignty.

In statements to MAP, young members of the diaspora indicated that this conference has particular importance for the intergenerational transmission of knowledge related to the history of the Kingdom and the national issue.
