Rabat: The President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Patrice Motsepe, announced that the Morocco-2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) draw will be ‘exciting’, and he anticipates that this 35th edition will be the most successful in the competition’s history.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, Motsepe commented on the upcoming event upon his arrival at Rabat-Salé Airport on Sunday, where he will attend the AFCON finals draw ceremony. He highlighted the enthusiasm surrounding the draw, which is set to take place on Monday evening in Rabat, and the eagerness to discover the host country’s opponents.
Motsepe expressed his gratitude towards Morocco, acknowledging its special place in his heart. He thanked HM King Mohammed VI for supporting the development of football in Africa, appreciating the Sovereign’s efforts in this direction. He also congratulated Fouzi Lekjaa, President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), for his efforts to advance football for the benefit of both Morocc

The CAF President emphasized the significance of Morocco as a venue, remarking that when African countries excel, it brings pride to the entire continent. Looking ahead to 2030, he mentioned the return of the World Cup to Africa, underscoring the impact of such events on the growth of African football.
Reflecting on Morocco’s performance in Qatar in 2022, where they reached the semi-finals, Motsepe expressed optimism about the potential of African teams in the 2026 World Cup. He conveyed his belief that an African team will eventually win the World Cup.
The draw for the 2025 AFCON is scheduled for Monday evening at the Mohammed V National Theater in Rabat.
