Sadiki at MAP Forum: Agriculture Ministry Ensures Balance between Agricultural, Food Policies

The Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development and Water and Forests Mohamed Sadiki said, Wednesday at the MAP Forum, that his Department is working to ensure the balance between agricultural and food policies.

Sadiki, guest of the Forum of the MAP organized under the theme: “Generation Green, a strategy for Morocco’s food security”, said that “we can not have sustainable food security for consumers, without ensuring stable economic security for farmers.”

In this regard, the Minister highlighted the importance of managing the differences in goals between agricultural policy, which is to set attractive prices to encourage producers and food policy which aims to keep food prices in the lowest level for consumers.

In addition, Sadiki stressed that the strategy “Generation Green” has placed the approach of food sovereignty at the center of its priorities through the transformation of food systems in order to strengthen food security, based on several pillars.

These are, according to the Minister, investment in human capital of the agricultural sector, permanent adaptation with the effects of climate change, lowering the cost of food by improving productivity and modernization of marketing networks.

These pillars also focus on reducing waste of food resources and strengthen sustainable consumption, limit the environmental and health effect, in addition to improving farm income through the creation of employment opportunities, especially for youth, in addition to the economic empowerment of rural women.

During his presentation, Sadiki highlighted the measures planned under “Generation Green” strategy which consolidates the achievements of the Green Morocco Plan, particularly in terms of growth and sustainability of the agricultural sector.

He also presented the objectives set by this ambitious strategy to ensure food sovereignty and security in harmony with the potential offered by the regions and territories of the Kingdom.
