RAMALLAH: Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and his Russian counterparty Vladimir Putin discussed today the latest developments in the Palestinian arena, and the efforts made to stop Israel’s attacks on the Palestinian people.
During a phone call, President Abbas offered condolences to President Putin and to the families of the Russian victims who were killed during the current escalation in the Gaza Strip.
President Abbas appreciated Russia’s positions in support of the rights of our Palestinian people and a comprehensive and just peace in the Middle East based on the resolutions of international legitimacy.
The President reiterated the need to stop attacks, stop targeting Palestinian civilians, and create safe corridors for the entry of medical and food supplies as well as providing water and electricity to the people of Gaza.
He stressed the need to prevent attempts to displace Palestinians from the Gaza Strip, affirming that this act is considered a second catastrophe for the Palestinian people, similar to that of 1948.
Abbas rejected the killing of civilians on both sides, underscoring the importance of releasing civilians and prisoners detained on both sides.
President Abbas reiterated adherence to international legitimacy and signed agreements, rejecting violence, and following political and legal methods to achieve national Palestinian goals.
He added that peace and security can only be achieved through implementing the two-state solution based on international legitimacy resolutions and recognizing the State of Palestine.
For his part, President Putin expressed his condolences to the victims of the Palestinian people, reiterating the importance of stopping the fighting, providing humanitarian aid, and not displacing the Palestinians outside their country.
President Putin also affirmed Russia’s position in supporting the right of the Palestinian people to freedom and independence in their state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
