African Seminar in Casablanca Calls for Strengthened Cooperation in Maritime Space Knowledge, Management


Casablanca: In an address, Rear Admiral Mohamed Tahin, Inspector of the Royal Navy, stated that participants clearly and firmly reaffirmed the strategic imperative of reinforced cooperation in the knowledge and management of our maritime spaces, at both continental and international levels. The seminar was organized by the National Defense Administration and the Royal Navy in execution of High Instructions from His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Supreme Commander and Chief of the General Staff of the Royal Armed Forces.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, Rear Admiral Mohamed Tahin emphasized a phase of mutual commitment involving frequent and active participation of hydrographic services in various meetings in this field, at regional, continental, and international levels, to strengthen Africa’s voice and uphold this shared vision of sovereignty, inclusion, and ownership of maritime space.

The same view was expressed by Admiral Ayo Olugbode, Director of the Nigerian Hydrographic Service, who emphasized the
importance of this seminar as it served as a platform for exchanging ideas on African cooperation in the fields of hydrography, oceanography, and marine cartography.

In his view, the event provided an opportunity to share expertise and engage in deepened dialogue on hydrographic and oceanographic information concerning maritime security and sustainable management of maritime resources.

The seminar focused on the challenges of African cooperation in the fields of hydrography, oceanography, and marine cartography. Discussions also highlighted the sharing of national experiences, illustrated by examples from other countries and Morocco, such as the Royal Atlantic Initiative and the Nigeria-Morocco gas pipeline project.
