Sochi: Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, called, on Sunday in Sochi, for Africa’s voice to be heard and respected internationally. “In order for Africa’s voice to be heard and weigh in on world affairs, it is important to remember certain fundamental principles,” Bourita said in his speech at the First Ministerial Conference of the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum, alongside his counterparts from Russia and African states.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, Bourita emphasized that “there can be no shared peace and prosperity in Africa for the people in our region without strict respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of its member states,” and added that there can also be no shared peace and prosperity on the continent without respect for the rules of good neighborliness between African States. He stressed the need for the continent’s partners to move away from paternalism, asserting that Africa is capable of managing its o
wn issues. Bourita criticized certain African States for positioning themselves as leaders to serve national agendas, rather than the collective interests of the continent.
Bourita stated that respecting these principles will strengthen Africa’s voice in global affairs, asserting that ‘it is not Africa that needs the rest of the world. In fact, it’s the rest of the world that increasingly needs Africa.’ He highlighted Africa’s unique voice, which reflects its rich history, diversity, and potential, noting the continent’s immense economic and demographic opportunities.
The Minister mentioned the Russia-Africa partnership, recognizing its growth potential and urging that it focus on Africa’s fundamental priorities. Ahead of the upcoming Russia-Africa Summit, Bourita emphasized the need to enhance cooperation between Africa and Russia, particularly in food and energy security sectors. He highlighted Morocco’s role in facilitating dialogue between Africa and Russia and stressed the importance of translating com
mitment into concrete actions and initiatives for human development, and food, energy, and climate security.
