Rabat: The Moroccan Agency for International Cooperation (AMCI) and the Belgian Development Agency (Enabel) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in Brussels to enhance their partnership and develop new triangular cooperation projects across Africa.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the MoU represents a significant step in consolidating a partnership built on a common vision for sustainable development in Africa. AMCI Director General, ambassador Mohamed Methqal, emphasized the commitment of both institutions to leverage their expertise and networks to create impactful projects tailored to the needs of African partner countries.

Methqal noted that this initiative aligns with the vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, prioritizing South-South cooperation, knowledge sharing, and the development of African partnerships within Morocco’s cooperation programs.

The MoU formalizes the commitment of AMCI and Enabel to deepen their collaboration, encouraging new initiatives that engage Moroccan, Belgian, European, and African stakeholders. The cooperation aims to harness Moroccan and Belgian expertise, as well as the know-how of African partners, to implement projects that address local realities and development priorities.

Enabel Director General, Jean Van Wetter, acknowledged Morocco’s strategic position as a bridge between Europe and Africa, asserting that the MoU elevates the partnership with AMCI to a more strategic level. He praised the potential of this cooperation to support sustainable development.

The signing of the MoU follows a high-level seminar on cooperation’s future, organized by AMCI and Enabel in Brussels on September 8-9. The collaboration between the two agencies began in 2006.
