AMCI Emphasizes Need for African Cooperation in Cybersecurity

Rabat:The Moroccan Agency for International Cooperation (AMCI) underscored the significance of enhancing African collaboration in cybersecurity and digital sovereignty during a high-level workshop on cyber diplomacy. This event saw participation from ambassadors of African countries to Morocco.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the workshop was organized in collaboration with the General Directorate for Information Systems Security (DGSSI) and the AMCI. It was part of the ‘Morocco Cyber Security Week,’ conducted from October 12 to 14, 2026, in Rabat by the DGSSI and Smart Africa. The aim was to bolster the capabilities of African diplomats in tackling emerging cybersecurity issues and to facilitate the exchange of experiences and consultations on shared challenges related to digital sovereignty on the continent.

AMCI Director General and Ambassador Mohamed Methqal emphasized Morocco’s commitment, under King Mohammed VI’s leadership, to fostering South-South cooperation. This approach is seen as a means to accelerate sustainable development in Africa through the exchange of experiences and capacity-building. Methqal highlighted that cybersecurity is now a crucial concern for national sovereignty, economic stability, and development, advocating for the enhancement of African skills and the development of South-South and triangular cooperation initiatives to create a secure and resilient African digital space.

To achieve these goals, the AMCI is collaborating with the DGSSI to share Moroccan expertise, create training programs, and establish networks to support African countries in building their cybersecurity capacities.

The attending African diplomats praised the initiative, noting its critical role in facilitating the exchange of experiences and discussions on common challenges in cybersecurity, digital sovereignty, and cooperation opportunities among African nations. The workshop covered a range of topics, including cyber diplomacy, cyber threats, international cybersecurity standards, data governance, and cyber crisis management.

This meeting is part of ongoing efforts to enhance African cooperation in cybersecurity, promote experience-sharing, and develop a unified vision to aid the continent’s digital transformation and sustainable development.
