Bahrain, Oman explore boosting tourism ties

Abdulla bin Adel Fakhro, Minister of Industry and Commerce and Acting Minister of Tourism, met Salim bin Mohammed Al Mahrouqi, Omani Minister of Heritage and Tourism, on the sidelines of the 7th meeting of GCC Tourism Ministers, hosted by Oman on October 4-5.

Fakhroo underscored the Kingdom’s commitment to enhancing tourism cooperation with the Sultanate of Oman. This commitment, he emphasised, is rooted in the strong relations between the two nations and their shared visions and objectives in the development of the tourism industry.

Minister Fakhro reaffirmed this dedication within the framework of the executive programme outlined in the memorandum of understanding on tourism cooperation, a significant accord signed in October 2022 between the Government of Bahrain, represented by the Ministry of Tourism, and the Government of the Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism.

The two sides emphasised the imperative of sustained collaborative efforts to capitalise on the alluring destinations and substantial tourism potential shared by the two nations. The objective is to bolster tourism sectors in both countries through responsible and sustainable utilization of natural, cultural and historical resources.

They discussed the strategic goal of attracting a larger number of tourists and visitors, which could be achieved through initiating new partnerships with global tourism and travel entities and accessing diverse tourism markets worldwide.

The meeting delved into strategies for reinforcing air and sea connectivity between Bahrain and Oman, facilitating seamless travel and movement. This concerted effort aimed to augment the number of tourists travelling between the two countries, fostering cultural and trade exchanges.

The meeting extended to collaborative efforts in joint tourism marketing and the exchange of expertise in managing tourism resources.

Opportunities for cooperation were explored in the sector of infrastructure development and the enhancement of tourism services, encompassing initiatives such as training and professional development for the tourism workforce.
