Rabat: The Republic of Burundi reiterated its constant and unwavering support for Morocco’s territorial integrity and sovereignty over its entire territory, including the Sahara region. This position was expressed in a joint statement following discussions between Édouard Bizimana, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and Development Cooperation of Burundi, and Nasser Bourita, the Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the Burundian Foreign Minister, who is on a working visit to Morocco, reaffirmed Burundi’s support for the autonomy plan proposed by Morocco, which is regarded as the only credible and realistic solution to resolve the regional dispute. Bizimana also expressed full support for the efforts of the UN Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy in facilitating negotiations based on the Autonomy Plan.
Furthermore, the Republic of Burundi applauded the adoption of UN Security Council Resolution 279
7. This resolution enshrines the Autonomy Plan under Moroccan sovereignty as the basis for a just, lasting, and mutually acceptable settlement of the dispute.
