Collapse of Building Under Construction in Marrakech, No Injuries or Fatalities Reported – Local Authorities


Marrakech: A five-storey building under construction completely collapsed in the early hours of Thursday in the Hivernage district, without causing any injuries or fatalities, local authorities of the Marrakech prefecture said.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the incident also led to the partial collapse of the building adjacent to the structure. After being alerted to the presence of cracks in the building concerned, local and security authorities had intervened on the night of Wednesday, December 31, to evacuate the building in question as well as nearby shops and buildings, and to secure the surrounding area.

An investigation has been opened by the competent authorities under the supervision of the relevant public prosecutor’s office. The competent parties have also begun the required administrative and technical procedures to clarify the circumstances of the incident and determine responsibilities, once all procedures have been completed, in accordance with the laws in force.
