DIDH Denies Media Allegations on S.B. Case

The Interministerial Delegation for Human Rights (DIDH) on Friday denied ''allegations reported by the media on the case of S.B, concerning in particular his trial for exercising his right to freedom of expression''.

In a clarification sent to MAP, the DIDH considers it necessary to enlighten public opinion by clarifying the case of the person concerned, noting that the proceedings against this person were initiated following his commission of reprehensible acts under the provisions of the penal code and not because of his exercise of the right to freedom of expression, which remains guaranteed by law.

The statement added that immediately after his arrest, the person concerned was granted all his rights and a fair trial, including notification of the reason for his arrest, his right to legal assistance and the opportunity to contact one of his relatives and appoint a lawyer or submit a request for his appointment under the legal aid scheme.

The same source also revealed that "the case of the person concerned is always brought before the justice system, which remains the only body empowered to make the final decision by incriminating or exonerating the person, given that the judgement in first instance against the person concerned is appealed".

It concluded by expressing "its rejection of all misinformation disseminated about the person concerned with the aim of influencing the course of the case".
