Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty today stressed that it was the international community’s duty to recognize the State of Palestine and enable Palestine to gain full United Nations membership.
Speaking in the ministerial meeting on the Palestinian question and the implementation of the two-state solution in Madrid, Abdelatty emphasized his country’s support to all the efforts aimed at ensuring the entry of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip in light of the catastrophic humanitarian situation and the daily Israeli violations of international humanitarian law, including through targeting civilians.
He also stressed that it was now the time for the international community to undertake its efforts aimed at halting the ongoing Israeli aggression, ensuring full respect of international law and the speedy, secure and unhindered entry of humanitarian aid into the Strip.
He reiterated his country’s determination to continue to engage with all parties of the international community to implement the two-stat
e solution, based on the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on 4 June 1967 borders.
He voiced is appreciation to Spain, Norway, Ireland and Slovenia for recently recognizing the Palestinian state, making a practical contribution to defending the Palestinian people’s legitimate rights, including the right to self-determination.
