Rabat: The reform of the Family Code reflects the Royal Will to enhance the management of community life, emphasized Jean-Marie Heydt, a French-Swiss researcher and academic. “Reforming the Family Code is a way of leaving an indelible mark of HM King Mohammed VI’s determination to evolve the status of women, men, and children in Moroccan society. This reform has significant social implications for the management of community life,” Heydt noted.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, this is “a historic reform, as it will once again, just as in 2004, mark the evolution of Moroccan society. It aims to correct shortcomings identified in the previous reform while ensuring the preservation of cultural aspects inherent to the fundamental values of Moroccan society,” he added.

This reform also encompasses numerous aspects aimed at adapting legal texts to Morocco’s social, economic, and cultural developments. Among the key provisions with a significant impact on social cohesion and individual protection, he cited
children’s rights concerning filiation, custody arrangements, and the consequences of divorce, which are often challenging for children.

According to the French-Swiss expert, all these measures “will allow both children and women to experience a more favorable environment after separations.”
