Foreign Ministry welcomes UN Security Council’s resolution for ceasefire in Gaza

RAMALLAH: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates welcomed today the efforts of the United Nations Security Council to assume its responsibilities in protecting civilians and the Palestinian people who have been subjected to the crime of genocide which has been committed deliberately by Israel for more than 171 days.

The Ministry, in a statement, said that the adoption of a resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire is a step in the right direction to stop the aggression completely and sustainably, for the withdrawal of the Israeli occupation forces from the Gaza Strip, the entry of aid and the return of the displaced persons to their homes and neighborhoods, despite the destruction and pain.

The Foreign Ministry called on the member states of the Security Council to fulfill their legal and historical responsibilities to implement the resolution immediately.

It stressed the importance of intensifying international efforts, including at the Security Council, to achieve a permanent and sustainable
ceasefire that extends beyond the holy month of Ramadan, and to secure the entry of international aid into the Gaza Strip to prevent the continuation of the disaster and famine.

It also emphasized the importance of working immediately to release prisoners, detainees and those held in custody as well as preventing the forced displacement of Palestinians in the Strip.

The Ministry stressed that the international consensus to stop the aggression against the Palestinian people, bring in aid and prevent forced displacement must be accompanied by practical steps and consequences on Israel, the illegal occupying power, to stop the war of genocide and other war crimes and crimes against humanity.
