Paris: Following a meeting with the minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, on the sidelines of his participation in the 4th Conference on Feminist Foreign Policies, the head of French diplomacy, Jean No«l Barrot, ‘recalled France’s position, for which the present and future of the Western Sahara fall within the framework of Moroccan sovereignty,’ according to a statement by the French Foreign Ministry published following the meeting.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, ‘The autonomy plan proposed by Morocco in 2007, which is gaining increasing international consensus, remains the only basis for achieving a just, lasting, and negotiated political solution, in accordance with United Nations Security Council resolutions,’ the statement said. In this context, ‘France is firmly committed at the United Nations to a definitive political settlement of this issue,’ the Foreign Ministry added.
