French President Meets Young Moroccan Video Games, Esports Talents in Rabat


Rabat – French President Emmanuel Macron held talks with young Moroccan talents who have excelled in the fields of video games and e-sports, on the forecourt of the International University of Rabat (UIR).

During this visit, held at the initiative of the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication, Macron took the opportunity to listen to explanations given by representatives of startups specializing in video games.

The meeting, attended by the Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication, Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid, the French Minister of Culture, Rachida Dati, and members of the delegation accompanying the French Head of State, provided an opportunity to discover professions as diverse as video game programming, game mechanics and design, as well as user experience.

The French President, who interacted positively with the experience of the young Moroccan talents, was keen to thank the initiators of this event, while stressing that the objective is to highlight Moroccan skills.

Macron took the opportunity to
point out that this exchange had enabled him to discover the field of video games and e-sports in Morocco, underlining that this constitutes a continuum for the cultural, creative and sporting industries, as well as for all event-related professions.

In recent years, France has embarked on the development of esports, drawing on an ecosystem encompassing video games and programming, a crossroads of technology, innovation and artistic spirit.

‘I’m finding the same vitality here as in France, with young people keen to discover and go off the beaten track,’ he said.

The new events generated by this field stand out for ‘their hybridization on all levels of sport, video games, creativity, coding, events, among others,’ he said, noting that young talents in this field manage to form communities that together create universes, events and positive emotions.

Macron also took the opportunity to encourage the youth embarking on these promising new professions, which he said are very demanding.

There is a future and
enormous potential in these professions,’ Macron said, adding that ‘we will be working alongside you so that Morocco can host global events in this field.’
