FRMT Official Highlights Morocco vs Colombia Davis Cup Match as Key Opportunity for Tennis Growth


Casablanca: Vice-president of the Royal Moroccan Tennis Federation (FRMT) Abdelaziz Laarraf emphasized on Tuesday that the upcoming Morocco-Colombia match in the Davis Cup World Group 1 qualifying play-off is crucial for elevating Morocco’s international tennis reputation.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, Laarraf addressed a conference in Casablanca, emphasizing the importance of the event scheduled for February 7-8 at the Moroccan Sports Union (USM) Tennis Club. He assured attendees that comprehensive logistical arrangements have been made to ensure the tournament’s success. Laarraf highlighted that Casablanca’s selection as the host city underscores Morocco’s capability to organize international events and its commitment to revitalize national tennis prestige.

National team captain Hicham Arazi also spoke, sharing that the Moroccan players are well-prepared and eager to secure their place in the Davis Cup World Group 1. Arazi expressed confidence in the team’s potential to meet the challenge prese
nted by the competition.

The event is particularly significant as it marks the return of this esteemed international competition to Moroccan soil after more than two decades. The last Davis Cup event in Casablanca was in 2003, where Morocco celebrated a memorable victory over Great Britain, a highlight in the nation’s tennis history.

Morocco earned its spot in the play-off by defeating Zimbabwe (4-0) and South Africa (4-1), showcasing the team’s strong performance leading up to this pivotal match.
