Rabat: The direct social assistance system marks a qualitative turning point in addressing the needs of vulnerable groups, through an institutional system based on precise targeting, social equity, and efficiency in resource allocation, said on Wednesday in Rabat the Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch. Chairing the meeting of the Board of Directors of the Agence nationale de soutien social (ANSS), Akhannouch emphasized the importance of this system as a central component of the strategic project related to the generalization of social protection, which benefits from the High Royal Care, according to a statement from his department.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the meeting provided an opportunity to review the most significant stages in the implementation of the social assistance program during 2025, including the increase in aid amounts and the operational launch of assistance for orphaned and abandoned children placed in social welfare institutions. Established to develop and implement social s
upport policies, particularly the direct social assistance project launched in 2023 in line with the High Directives of HM the King, the Agency has also adopted a monitoring mechanism to measure the program’s performance indicators in reducing poverty and vulnerability.
The statement revealed that some 3.9 million families benefit from the direct social assistance program, more than 12.5 million citizens, including 5.5 million children benefiting from birth up to the age of 21, in addition to 1.7 million people over the age of 60. These families receive monthly assistance and complementary aid ranging from 500 to 1,350 dirhams.
