Health Authorities Deny Doctor Shortage in Agadir Hospital After Death of Pregnant Woman

Agadir: The Souss-Massa Regional Directorate of Health and Social Protection dismissed the reports as false. “The patient was admitted as an emergency to the maternity department at Al Mokhtar Soussi Hospital in Biougra, where she was attended by a gynecologist and a team of nurses,” authorities said in a statement.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, following diagnosis, doctors decided to perform a C-section to ensure the safety of both the mother and the baby. The procedure was carried out under proper conditions and under the supervision of the medical staff, the statement noted.

“After the birth, the woman experienced severe bleeding that required a second urgent surgery at the same hospital, after which she was transferred to the intensive care unit at Hassan II Hospital. Despite all medical interventions, her condition worsened, ultimately leading to her death,” said the same source.

Regarding the baby, the Directorate said he is currently in good health, extending its condolences to the patient’s family.

It has also confirmed that a medical and administrative committee has launched an investigation into the unfortunate incident, in order to determine responsibility and take the necessary legal measures.
