HM King Mohammed VI Expresses Condolences to Cardinal Re After Pope Francis’ Passing


Rabat: His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Commander of the Faithful, has sent a condolences message to His Eminence Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re, the Dean of the College of Cardinals, following the passing of Pope Francis.



According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the King expressed profound sorrow upon learning of Pope Francis’ death, extending his condolences to Christians worldwide and particularly to the Roman Catholic Church. The King’s message highlighted the Pope’s dedication to human ideals and values rooted in faith, freedom, peace, love, and solidarity. King Mohammed VI acknowledged Pope Francis’ advocacy for environmental protection and his commitment to combating marginalization, poverty, and defending human dignity.



The King also reflected on Pope Francis’ historic visit to Morocco in March 2019, which reinforced the relationship between Morocco and the Holy See. This visit was marked by the signing of the ‘Jerusalem Declaration’, emphasizing the right of followers of the three monotheistic religions to access the Holy City and perform their religious rituals freely. The King concluded his message by sharing in the grief of the Roman Catholic Church and offering prayers for comfort and solace.
