Rabat – Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rachid Talbi Alami, said here on Tuesday that the initiatives of His Majesty King Mohammed VI “illustrate Morocco’s unwavering commitment to the Palestinian cause and the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people to independence and the establishment of their independent state”.
Speaking at the opening of the 52? meeting of the Executive Committee of the Parliamentary Union of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Member States (PUIC), Talbi Alami highlighted the concrete projects led by Bayt Mal Al-Quds Agency, part of the Al-Quds Committee chaired by His Majesty the King, to advance residents of the holy city’s resistance in the face of colonization and occupation.
In this context, the Lower House speaker pointed out that on Very High Royal Instructions, Morocco was the first country to deliver humanitarian aid by land to the Gaza population.
‘The brotherly Palestinian people deserve all the support needed to obtain their legitimate rights, which can o
nly be achieved by opening a clear political horizon through negotiations aimed at establishing an independent Palestinian state with East Al-Quds as its capital, a solution which implementation must be guaranteed by the international community within the framework of a clear, firm and sincere international commitment’, Talbi Alami stressed .
Furthermore, he noted that the 52? meeting of the PUIC Executive Committee, which will see the adoption of the draft agendas of the Standing and Thematic Committees and the General Conference of the PUIC, will be marked by political discussions and orientations for debates and proceedings.
Talbi Alami pointed out that ‘the oldest, most complex and most sever conflicts are taking place in Islamic countries’, noting that ‘while some of these conflicts are linked to external intervention, they are partly due to abhorrent sectarianism, lack of independence of national decision-making in some cases, attacks on the territorial integrity of States and feeding of separatist te
ndencies’.
‘The Union’s decisions, however effective and credible, will only be effective and productive if they are intelligent, coherent and adapted to international transformations, and accepted and adapted by other bodies of joint Islamic action, for it is they who are in a position to implement and coordinate them’.
This necessary coordination and openness to organizations of the Islamic world, both governmental and thematic, should also extend to multilateral parliamentary organizations, ‘with the aim of making our causes known and correcting falsehoods and confusions which cause a significant part of international public opinion to turn against us, simply because a handful of extremists commit, in the name of Islam and Muslims, shameful and condemnable acts Islam renounces’, underlined Talbi Alami.
In this respect, he highlighted the importance of the ‘Marrakech Declaration’ following the Inter-Parliamentary Conference on ‘Interfaith Dialogue: Collaborating for our Common Future’, held on June 13-15
, 2023, making it an international parliamentary reference document in the field of interfaith dialogue, civilizations and beliefs, while calling for its implementation.
