HRH Prince Moulay Rachid Chairs Final of 25th Hassan II Trophy for Traditional Equestrian Arts ‘Tbourida’


Rabat: His Royal Highness Prince Moulay Rachid chaired the final of the 25th Hassan II Trophy for Traditional Equestrian Arts “Tbourida” on Sunday at the Royal Equestrian and Tbourida Complex Dar Es Salam in Rabat. The event, held from June 15 to 21, was organized under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, upon his arrival at the Royal Equestrian and Tbourida Sports Complex Dar Es Salam, HRH Prince Moulay Rachid was welcomed by Moulay Abdellah Alaoui, president of the Royal Moroccan Equestrian Sports Federation (FRMSE), before reviewing a detachment of the Auxiliary Forces that performed the honors.

HRH Prince Moulay Rachid was then greeted by several officials, including Minister of National Education, Preschool Education, and Sports Mohamed Sa Sd Berrada; Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development, and Water and Forests Ahmed El Bouari; Minister of Youth, Culture, and Communication Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid; and Secretary of State for
Handicrafts and the Social and Solidarity Economy Lahcen Essaadi.

In addition, the prince was greeted by the president of the Moroccan National Olympic Committee Fayçal Laraichi; Wali of the Rabat-Salé-Kenitra region and governor of the Rabat prefecture Mohamed Yacoubi; president of the Regional Council Rachid El Abdi; President of the Rabat Communal Council Fatiha El Moudni; President of the Rabat Prefectural Council Abdelaziz Driouich; President of the Souissi District Adil El Atrassi, sponsors, and members of the FRMSE’s federal executive committee.

HRH Prince Moulay Rachid then took his seat in the VIP Tent, where he watched the final of the 25th edition of the Hassan II Trophy for Traditional Equestrian Arts. At the close of the competition, organized by the FRMSE, he presented the gold medal for the “Junior” category to the sorba led by Moqaddem Zouraizae Badr of Mediouna (Casablanca-Settat region). The silver medal went to the sorba of Moqaddem El Khadi Badr Eddine from Youssoufia (Marrakech-Safi reg
ion), and the bronze to the sorba of Moqaddem El Gazoumi Houssam from Guelmim (Guelmim-Oued Noun region).

His Royal Highness also awarded the gold medal in the “Seniors” category to the sorba team led by Moqaddem Telhouni Mohamed-Amine of Settat (Casablanca-Settat region), the silver to the sorba of Moqaddem El Haloua Abdelhadi from Skhirat-Temara (Rabat-Salé-Kenitra region), and the bronze to the sorba of Moqaddem El Mehdi Anajar from Marrakech (Marrakech-Safi region).

On this occasion, HRH Prince Moulay Rachid posed for commemorative photos with the winning riders in both “junior” and “senior” categories. The sorbas participating in the Hassan II Trophy for Traditional Equestrian Arts are judged based on criteria set by the judges of the Royal Moroccan Equestrian Sports Federation. These criteria include the unity of the riders’ movements, the rhythm of the gallop, the movement of the rifles, the timing of the shots, traditional attire, and the saddle, as well as the level of coordination and communicatio
n, control of their mounts, and the overall poise of both rider and horse.

Included since 2021 on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, Tbourida remains one of the most iconic expressions of Moroccan heritage. This anniversary edition of the Hassan II Trophy once again celebrates the excellence of traditional equestrian arts and the dedication of the sorbas from all regions of the Kingdom.
