Casablanca – Walid Regragui, who won the Moroccan championship and the African Champions League title last year with Wydad Casablanca, has been crowned third best club coach in the world in 2022 by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS).
The title of the world’s best club coach, announced on the website of the IFFHS, was awarded to the Italian coach of Real Madrid, Carlo Ancelotti for “his fantastic season and a new UEFA Champions League title”.
Regragui is the only Arab and African in this ranking dominated by Europeans and South Americans and which includes renowned coaches such as the Spaniard Josep Guardiola (Manchester City), second, the German Jürgen Klopp (Liverpool), fourth, and the Portuguese Jose Mourinho (AS Roma), fifth.
Regragui, who is currently the coach of the Moroccan national team, was also named the third world’s best national coach. He became the first African and Arab manager to lead his team to the World Cup semi-finals.
The former Moroccan international, 47, has other coaching experiences with FUS of Rabat and Al Duhail of Qatar.
