Interior Minister Holds Talks with Mauritanian Peer in Rabat


Rabat: The Minister of Interior, Abdelouafi Laftit, received, on Friday at the Ministry’s seat in Rabat, Mauritania’s Minister of Interior, Decentralization and Local Development, Mohamed Ahmed Ould Mohamed Lemine, who is on a visit to the Kingdom (July 17-18).

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, this meeting is part of the ties of brotherhood and fruitful cooperation between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, under the wise leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist Him, and His Excellency President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, to strengthen the foundations of South-South cooperation and enshrine solidarity and mutual action against the current challenges, the Ministry of the Interior said in a statement.

On this occasion, the two sides welcomed the distinguished relations between the two countries, reiterating their mutual determination to undertake further efforts in order to elevate cooperation between the two ministries to the level of these privile
ged relations.

The two ministers also reviewed several issues of mutual interest, the same source added, noting that the meetings mainly explored the participative dynamic marking cooperation between the two departments, mainly security cooperation, as well as issues of migration and decentralized cooperation.

They agreed to bolster bilateral cooperation in the fields relevant to their ministries and develop coordination mechanisms on issues of mutual interest, in a spirit of mutual trust, solidarity, and partnership in the service of the two brotherly countries’ interests.

This visit reflects the positive momentum in the relations between Morocco and Mauritania, and embodies the mutual determination to promote bilateral cooperation in the fields that fall within the field of competence of the Ministry of Interior, in a spirit of brotherhood and complementarity, the statement concludes.
