Amman: King Abdullah II of Jordan emphasized the necessity for a unified Arab and Islamic stance to halt unprecedented Israeli measures in Jerusalem, particularly at the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Noble Sanctuary.

According to Union of OIC News Agencies, the King underscored Jordan’s ongoing commitment to its historical and legal role in protecting Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem. This commitment is rooted in the Hashemite custodianship over these sites. The statement was made during a meeting at Al-Husseiniya Palace with members of the Arab Ministerial Committee, which is focused on confronting illegal Israeli policies and measures in occupied Jerusalem.

The meeting included foreign ministers from Tunisia, Algeria, Iraq, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Palestine, Egypt, and Morocco, as well as the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States. Additionally, representatives and foreign ministers from Indonesia, Pakistan, Turkey, and Malaysia were present. In attendance was also Crown Prince Hussein bin Abdullah II of Jordan.

King Abdullah II warned of the risks of exploiting regional unrest to impose new realities in Jerusalem and highlighted the dangers of escalating conflict due to ongoing Israeli activities in the West Bank, including land annexation and settlement expansion. The discussions also emphasized the significance of adhering to the comprehensive peace plan phases in the Gaza Strip.

The meeting was further attended by Prince Ghazi bin Muhammad, the King’s chief advisor for religious and cultural affairs, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi, and the Director of the King’s Office, Engineer Alaa Batayneh.
