Malawi Reaffirms ‘Constant’ Support for Morocco’s Territorial Integrity

Rabat: Malawi has reinforced its unwavering support for Morocco’s territorial integrity, as underscored by Dr. George Thapatula Chaponda, the newly appointed Malawian Minister of Foreign Affairs. This declaration was made during a telephone conversation with Nasser Bourita, the Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, Chaponda expressed appreciation for “the growing international consensus” and the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI concerning the autonomy plan proposed by Morocco. He reiterated Malawi’s backing of this plan, labeling it as “the only credible and realistic solution” for resolving the issue at hand.

Chaponda also praised the United Nations’ efforts, recognizing it as the sole framework capable of facilitating a resolution. The two Foreign Ministers emphasized their commitment to charting a strategic path to bolster multisectoral cooperation between Malawi and Morocco. This commitment is supported by existing diplomatic ties, such as the Consulate General of Malawi in Laayoune, which has been operational since December 2023. The collaboration aims to align bilateral relations with the aspirations of the respective Heads of State.
