Marrakech: Marrakech will host the 4th Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety on February 18-20 in Marrakech under the High Patronage of HM King Mohammed VI. Held in cooperation with the World Health Organization (WHO), the conference will convene official delegations from over 100 countries, including ministers responsible for transport, interior affairs, infrastructure, and health, the Ministry of Transport and Logistics said in a press release.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the conference is themed “Committing to Life” and aims to advance global road safety initiatives and foster international cooperation to reduce traffic-related fatalities. With the United Nations Decade of Action for Road Safety 2021-2030 at its midpoint, and only five years left to achieve the Global Goals for Sustainable Development, participants will assess progress, identify priorities, share knowledge, forge and strengthen alliances, and advance commitments and actions to save more lives on the world’s roads.

Focus areas for the conference include road safety governance, emerging trends in mobility, financing, collaboration with the private sector, road traffic injury data, and connections with related Sustainable Development Goals’ agendas. As the first-ever Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety to be held on the African continent, there will also be a focus on progress in Africa.

Participants will include ministers, heads of national road safety agencies, government representatives from authorities at all levels, as well as from connected sectors, parliamentarians, experts from the United Nations, civil society, business, and academia. The conference builds on previous Ministerial Conferences on Road Safety held in the Russian Federation [2009], Brazil [2015], and Sweden [2020] that yielded crucial road fatality reduction targets, actions, and global collaborations to advance road safety worldwide.
