Rabat: Morocco has always acted as a “sovereign, loyal and responsible” partner in combating illegal immigration, a government source said on Monday in Rabat, stressing that migration management is a “shared responsibility” and that the Kingdom has “always shouldered its share.”

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, Morocco has never done anything under pressure, nor acted out of obligation or in response to blackmail. The source emphasized that commitment and responsibility have driven their actions. The complex issue of migration requires everyone to assume their responsibilities, and Morocco fully assumes theirs.

The government source highlighted that this commitment is reflected in visible results, which are sometimes taken for granted. They pointed out that the western Mediterranean has been less problematic for Europe due to Morocco’s efficient allocation of resources against human trafficking networks.

Substantial human, technical, and financial resources have been deployed by Morocco to manage m
igration effectively. The government source praised the cooperation between Morocco and the Spanish government as exemplary.

Citing official figures, the source reported that 74,000 attempted illegal migration cases were thwarted in 2025 and 79,000 in 2024, totaling nearly 160,000 over two years. Additionally, 632 illegal immigration networks were dismantled, and over 32,000 successful sea rescue operations were conducted during this period.

Over the past five years, Morocco has thwarted more than 360,000 attempted illegal migrations, the source added.
