Moroccan FM Confident About Positive Prospects of Morocco-EU Partnership

Brussels: Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, expressed, on Thursday in Brussels, confidence in the positive and promising prospects of the partnership between Morocco and the European Union.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, Bourita conveyed his optimism to the press shortly before the commencement of the 15th session of the Morocco-EU Association Council. He emphasized the importance of the meeting on both symbolic and political and economic fronts, as it coincides with the approaching 30th anniversary of the signing of the Morocco-European Union Association Agreement. This marks three decades of a robust institutional partnership, with Morocco playing a pivotal role in the EU’s relations with its Mediterranean neighbors.

Bourita underscored the political significance of the session, particularly in the current international climate characterized by uncertainty and conflict. Under the guidance of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Morocco has established itself as a stable partner, providing clarity and insight into regional and international issues.

The minister highlighted Morocco’s consistent approach as a partner that clearly communicates its expectations while reliably fulfilling its commitments. This approach is expected to continue steering its relations with the European Union.

Economically, Bourita pointed out that Morocco is the European Union’s leading trading partner south of the Mediterranean and in Africa, suggesting that this partnership could inspire future EU relations with its southern neighbors. The Association Council meeting builds on a solid foundation and aims to enhance Morocco-EU relations further. The broad participation of EU Member States, including ministerial-level attendees, reflects Morocco’s significant role in the Euro-Mediterranean partnership and its capability to address regional and global challenges effectively.
