Moroccan Jewish Community in Los Angeles Reaffirms Commitment to the Alawite Throne

Los angeles: The Moroccan Jewish community in Los Angeles recently expressed its unwavering commitment to the Alawite Throne and Morocco’s model of peaceful coexistence during an event organized to celebrate Morocco Day. The event, originally proclaimed in 2019 in the presence of Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Hasnaa, brought together dignitaries, religious leaders, and diaspora members to highlight values such as unity, attachment to roots, and the preservation of collective memory.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, Rabbi Joshua Bittan, a native of Ouazzane, led prayers for the preservation of His Majesty King Mohammed VI and the fulfillment of the Sovereign in the persons of HRH Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan, HRH Princess Lalla Khadija, HRH Prince Moulay Rachid, and all members of the Royal Family. The Sephardic Congregation “Em Habanim” expressed their deep gratitude to His Majesty the King for his efforts to preserve Morocco’s heritage and promote coexistence among the nation’s diverse communities.

Morocco’s ambassador to the United States, Youssef Amrani, emphasized the Jewish community’s strong attachment to its Moroccan origins, describing Morocco as more than just a country of origin but as a home and reference point. He highlighted the interfaith dialogue promoted by Morocco, deeply rooted in its history and continually renewed under the leadership of King Mohammed VI.

Amrani noted that coexistence in Morocco has historically been a way of life, allowing Jews, Christians, and Muslims to live together, sharing towns, villages, hopes, and values. This heritage is enshrined in the Moroccan Constitution, recognizing all components of national identity, including the Jewish component, and is reflected in actions such as the restoration of synagogues and the preservation of archives.

To further strengthen ties with the Moroccan community on the U.S. West Coast, Amrani announced plans for a Moroccan consulate in Los Angeles to provide easier access to consular services. He also mentioned the upcoming launch of a direct airline route between Casablanca and Los Angeles, expected to enhance connectivity and boost exchanges between Morocco and the U.S. West Coast.
