Moroccan Political Parties Welcome HM the King’s Participative Approach to Update, Detail Formulation of Autonomy Initiative


Rabat: In statements to the press following a meeting held on Monday, by Order of His Majesty the King, and chaired by Advisors of the Sovereign, Taib Fassi Fihri, Omar Azziman, and Fouad Ali El Himma, and dedicated, in line with the Very High Instructions of HM the King, to updating and detailing the formulation of the autonomy initiative, within the framework of Moroccan sovereignty, they reiterated the Sovereign’s continuous commitment to implementing the participative approach, whenever it concerns the country’s major causes.



According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the president of the National Rally of Independents (RNI), Aziz Akhannouch, emphasized the importance of this meeting which was attended by the Minister of the Interior and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates. The RNI president said that the meeting was an opportunity to express his sincere thanks to His Majesty the King, who, as usual, consults with political parties on major national issues. In this regard, he added that the party will work to develop a vision for the future of the national cause, in light of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2797 on the Moroccan Sahara.



For her part, the national coordinator of the collegial leadership of the general secretariat of the Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM), Fatima-Zahra Mansouri, said that as a political party, the PAM expressed its joy and pride following the adoption of Security Council Resolution 2797 on the Moroccan Sahara, which enshrined the preeminence of the Moroccan autonomy initiative. The PAM fully supports this participatory and consultative approach with a view to engaging in collective reflection to arrive at a more detailed vision of the autonomy initiative within the framework of Moroccan sovereignty, she said.



The secretary-general of the Istiqlal Party (PI), Nizar Baraka, declared that this meeting was dedicated to an essential issue, namely the updating and detailing the formulation of the autonomy initiative under Moroccan sovereignty. Having called the recent Security Council historic, he said that Morocco is now undergoing a new phase in which the Kingdom will present an updated and detailed vision of the autonomy initiative, which constitutes the basis of negotiations for a definitive resolution to the artificial conflict over the Moroccan Sahara, which is set to open new prospects for development and stability mainly at the Maghreb and regional levels.



In the same vein, the First Secretary of the Socialist Union of Popular Forces (USFP), Driss Lachgar, said that political parties are called to design an updated and detailed vision of the autonomy initiative under Moroccan sovereignty, calling to capitalize on the Moroccan experience in advanced regionalization. He highly praised the commitment of HM the King to involving political parties in this crucial step, noting that this enshrines the participative approach that the Sovereign has always advocated for whenever it concerned the country’s major causes.



The secretary-general of the Popular Movement (MP), Mohamed Ouzzine, highlighted the importance of this participative and concertation meeting, noting that the Sovereign has constantly made sure to advocate for this participative approach, whenever it concerned a societal and national issue. The meeting discussed the updating and detailing the formulation of the autonomy initiative under Moroccan sovereignty, he added.



Meanwhile, the secretary general of the Party of Progress and Socialism (PPS), Mohamed Nabil Benabdellah, noted that political parties are invited to present memorandums on their visions concerning the autonomy initiative in an accurate and detailed manner, adding that the PPS will present its vision on the subject. He added that Morocco has reached a decisive milestone which requires further mobilization of the country’s vital forces to proceed forward with confidence and serenity.



The secretary general of the Constitutional Union (UC), Mohamed Joudar, expressed his deep gratitude to HM the King, highly praising the Sovereign’s approach associating political parties represented in the two houses of Parliament to devise an updated and detailed vision of the autonomy initiative. This important meeting comes following the adoption of resolution 2797 by the Security Council, which enshrined the preeminence and relevance of the autonomy initiative under Moroccan sovereignty.



The secretary general of the Party of Justice and Development (PJD), Abdelilah Benkirane, emphasized that the meeting today by Order of HM the King, aims to associate political formations for the development of a vision on the updating and detailing the formulation of the autonomy initiative under Moroccan sovereignty. In this respect, Benkirane noted that the political parties will accomplish their duty and fully assume their responsibilities.



Meanwhile, Nabila Mounib, a deputy from the Unified Socialist Party (PSU), stressed that the Moroccan Sahara issue has reached a new milestone following the UNSC resolution, which requires the development of an integration national vision for a solution that serves the entire Maghreb region. The development of an integrated, updated and detailed vision on the autonomy initiative under Moroccan sovereignty could guarantee the return of our brothers in the Tindouf camps to their motherland, she said.
