Moroccan Sahara: Burkina Faso Reiterates Strong Support for the Kingdom’s Territorial Integrity, Welcomes UNSC Adoption of Historic Resolution 2797 Recognizing the Autonomy Plan


Ouagadougou: Burkina Faso has reaffirmed its robust support for Morocco’s territorial integrity, particularly concerning the Sahara region, as highlighted in a communiqu© from the 5th Session of the Morocco-Burkina Faso Joint Cooperation Commission. This session was co-chaired by Burkina Faso’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Karamoko Jean Marie Traor©, and Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nasser Bourita.



According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, Traor© reiterated Burkina Faso’s steadfast stance supporting Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara and the Kingdom’s proposed Autonomy Plan. He commended the international consensus fostered by King Mohammed VI favoring the plan and Morocco’s sovereignty.



Traor© expressed satisfaction with the UN Security Council’s historic adoption of Resolution 2797 on 31 October 2025. This resolution acknowledges Morocco’s Autonomy Plan as the sole credible and lasting framework for resolving the Sahara dispute within Moroccan sovereignty.



Bourita, on his part, expressed gratitude for Burkina Faso’s unwavering support for Morocco in regional and international forums. He highlighted Burkina Faso’s opening of a Consulate General in Dakhla in October 2020 as evidence of its continuous support.



Additionally, Bourita extended Morocco’s solidarity with Burkina Faso in its fight against terrorism and extremism, assuring that Morocco remains a committed partner in promoting Burkina Faso’s stability and development initiatives.
