Nador:Rabat Morocco is striving to replicate the success of the Tanger Med port through the development of Nador West Med, which has emerged as a significant infrastructure hub in the Mediterranean.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the launch of operations at Nador West Med's first container terminal by HRH Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan has further strengthened the progress initiated by Tanger Med. This port, inaugurated in 2007 and expanded over the years, was designed to leverage Morocco's strategic position on the southern shore of the Strait of Gibraltar, a vital international trade route.
The construction of these infrastructures has positioned the northern region of Morocco as the country's second-largest industrial hub, alongside Casablanca. Nador West Med is anticipated to eventually surpass Tanger Med in container traffic, as reported by the French daily L'Opinion.
Port and maritime expert Najib Cherfaoui highlighted that Nador West Med is currently focused entirely on container operations. It aims to support Tanger Med, which is experiencing capacity constraints due to its success and global economic changes. The inauguration of Nador West Med is expected to allow Morocco to gain even more from its strategic advantages.
The French newspaper concluded that by capitalizing on its exceptional geographical position, Morocco is relying on Nador West Med to replicate the proven success formula established by Tanger Med.
