Rabat: On this occasion, both parties welcomed the positive dynamic of cooperation between Morocco and Kenya and explored prospects for collaboration in air transport, agreeing to conclude a technical cooperation Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) as soon as possible.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the two nations also discussed mutual support for the candidacies of Morocco and Kenya to the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and establishing close cooperation in the maritime sector, notably by enhancing the exchange of expertise in this field.
In a statement to MAP, Kayouh stated that this fruitful meeting was an opportunity to exchange views on strengthening cooperation in maritime and air transport through sharing expertise in maritime training and establishing links between the ports of Mombasa and Tanger Med. He further noted that Morocco’s experience in maritime training constitutes a model to be shared with Kenya, particularly on the technical level, such as the training of ship captains in accordance with international standards.
For his part, the Kenyan Minister explained that the talks served to examine ways to strengthen cooperation between Kenya and Morocco, particularly in the maritime sector, including discussions related to the IMO. Kenya supports Morocco’s candidacy for Category C within the IMO, and Morocco, in turn, supports Kenya’s candidacy for the same category, which will be submitted to a vote at the end of next November, he stated. He emphasized the importance of establishing joint structures and programs to broaden maritime cooperation between the two countries.
Category C refers to one of the three categories of members of the IMO Council, an executive body of the United Nations comprising about twenty states with special interests in maritime transport or navigation, and whose election ensures geographical representation within the Council.
These discussions underscore the positive momentum in relations between Morocco and Kenya and the shared desire to develop concrete partnerships in the maritime, air transport, and logistics sectors, serving the interests of both countries and strengthening interconnectivity.
