Morocco and Kenya Strengthen Ties with First Joint Cooperation Commission

Nairobi: The Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, and the Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs of the Republic of Kenya, Dr. Musalia Mudavadi, co-chaired, on Thursday in Nairobi, the ministerial session of the Joint Cooperation Commission between the two countries.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, this session, which follows the meeting of senior officials held in Rabat from October 1 to 3, 2025, was marked by the signing of eleven bilateral instruments covering various sectors including agriculture, justice, health, and maritime fisheries. Additional areas addressed were aquaculture, gender equality, cultural cooperation, higher education, sports, and wildlife. Agreements also included visa exemption for diplomatic, service, and official passports, alongside a framework agreement for university scholarships, internships, and expertise sharing.

These agreements build upon five memoranda of understanding i
nitiated in May 2025, focusing on diplomatic training, housing, trade cooperation, youth, and public service capacity building. The two officials adopted the approved minutes of the Joint Commission, establishing a strategic framework for cooperation aimed at guiding bilateral relations in priority sectors. An implementation and monitoring mechanism was also agreed upon to ensure coordinated execution of the commitments.

In the realm of trade and investment, both parties emphasized the need to address the existing trade imbalance, expand market access for agricultural and value-added products, and encourage cross-investment in sectors such as renewable energy, agro-industry, pharmaceuticals, automotive, and infrastructure. They also agreed to expedite negotiations to conclude agreements in ports, avoidance of double taxation, energy, air services, mining, and tourism.

Regarding connectivity, the officials prioritized resuming direct flights between Kenya and Morocco to enhance trade, tourism, and people-to-
people exchanges.
