Morocco, Cabo Verde Explore Port Partnership Prospects

Morocco: Morocco’s Minister of Equipment and Water Nizar Baraka and Cabo Verde’s Minister of the Sea Jorge Pedro Mauricio dos Santos reviewed bilateral cooperation prospects in the port and blue economy sectors on Wednesday in El Jadida.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, following these talks, held on the sidelines of the 1st International Exhibition of Ports and their Ecosystems (SIPORTS 2026), Baraka mentioned that both parties highlighted the strategic importance of the Atlantic Initiative launched by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, which is open to Sahel countries.

In this context, the Cabo Verdean minister expressed his country’s willingness to fully commit to an Atlantic corridor connecting major African ports along the Atlantic coast to foster the development of this shared space.

Discussions focused on several concrete pillars of cooperation, namely sharing Moroccan expertise in port authority management, implementing ecological transitions within port infrastructures, and the participation of Moroccan companies in projects to expand and modernize Cape Verdean ports.

Dos Santos praised Morocco’s progress in the sector, citing the national port system, from Tanger Med to the Dakhla Atlantic Port, as a prime example of the “evolution and innovation” driven by the Kingdom.

He reaffirmed Praia’s support for His Majesty the King’s vision for Atlantic Africa, noting its vital importance for the continent’s future and the region’s positioning relative to Europe, the Americas, and Asia.

The Cabo Verdean minister also recalled the depth of historical ties between the two nations, reiterating Cabo Verde’s support for Morocco’s territorial integrity, which was formalized by the establishment of a Consulate General in Dakhla.
