Morocco chaired the 160th ordinary session of the Arab League's council at the level of permanent delegates, which took place on Monday at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States in Cairo.
The session, which aimed to prepare for the upcoming Arab League Council meeting at the level of Foreign Ministers, was chaired by Morocco's Ambassador to Egypt and Permanent Representative to the Arab League, Ahmed Tazi.
During his address, Ambassador Ahmed Tazi highlighted that Morocco's presidency of the current session of the Arab League Council aligns with two significant events. Firstly, the preparations for the Arab Summit on Economic and Social Development, set to be held in Mauritania in November, and secondly, the preparations for the forthcoming Arab Summit, which will be hosted by the Kingdom of Bahrain.
He added that the session of the Council is also taking place at a time when a series of decisions, projects and documents have been prepared and will be submitted to the Arab League Council at ministerial level.
The Moroccan diplomat expressed the hope that the Kingdom's presidency of this session would give real impetus to the issues and dossiers to be addressed, calling for support for the session's presidency to facilitate and discharge its tasks.
The current session addresses a number of political, economic, social, legal, financial and administrative issues. At the forefront are developments in the Palestinian question, joint Arab action and water security in the Arab world.
The session also addresses developments in Libya, Yemen, Sudan and Somalia, the issue of the Iran-occupied islands of the United Arab Emirates, solidarity with Lebanon, safe navigation and energy supplies in the Arab Gulf region to establish a zone free of nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction in the Middle East, in addition to Arab relations with international and regional organizations and groups.
