Morocco: Morocco’s economy created 193,000 jobs between 2024 and 2025, according to the High Commission for Planning (HCP).
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, this net gain reflects the creation of 203,000 jobs in urban areas, offset by a loss of 10,000 jobs in rural areas, the HCP said. The overall increase was driven by the addition of 249,000 paid positions, while non-paid employment declined by 55,000 jobs.
Over the same period, the labor force participation rate remained broadly stable at 43.5% nationally. It fell by 0.4 percentage points in rural areas, while rising by 0.2 points in urban areas to 42.2%.
Participation rates also showed little change by gender. Among men, the rate edged down slightly from 68.6% to 68.5%, while among women it slipped from 19.1% to 19%.
Meanwhile, the employment rate increased at the national level, rising from 37.7% to 37.8%. This modest increase masked contrasting trends across regions: employment declined by 0.3 points in rural areas to 43%, while it increased by 0.4 points in urban areas to 35.3%.
By gender, the employment rate rose among men, climbing from 60.7% to 61.1%, but declined among women, falling from 15.3% to 15.1%.
