Luanda: The Moroccan men’s national wheelchair basketball team claimed victory at the African Nations Championship, triumphing over South Africa with a score of 59-42 in the final held on Thursday evening.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the team’s assistant coach, Abdelhak El Hadaoui, announced that this victory marks Morocco’s third title in the competition, thereby securing its qualification for the 2026 World Championship, set to take place next September in Ottawa. El Hadaoui highlighted Morocco’s dominance throughout the tournament, which was hosted in Angola from March 27 to April 4, with notable wins against Egypt (76-21), South Africa (56-40), and Senegal (44-40).
In the knockout stages, Morocco maintained its winning form by defeating Kenya in the quarter-finals and Senegal in the semi-finals, with a score of 55-47. El Hadaoui expressed pride in the team’s consistent performance, attributing their success to thorough preparation and a commitment to excellence, which enabled them to retain
their African champion title.
He commended the players for their patriotism, dedication, and unwavering determination to excel in the tournament. As the reigning champions from the previous edition in Ghana, the Moroccan team has a history of success, having first been crowned African champion in 2017 in Durban.
