The number of casualties, resulting from the earthquake that struck several Moroccan provinces and prefectures on September 8, rose to 2,862, while injuries have reached 2,562, says an updated toll released as of 7:00 PM by the Ministry of the Interior.
By province, the tremor resulted in 1,604 fatalities in Al Haouz, 976 in Taroudant, and one death in Essaouira, according to the ministry. Among the deceased, 2,854 have been buried.
No new deaths have been reported in the other affected provinces and prefectures, the same source added.
Public authorities continue their efforts to rescue, evacuate, and care for the injured, as well as to clear the damaged roads following the earthquake. They are also mobilizing all necessary resources to manage the consequences of this painful tragedy.
