Morocco-France Parliamentary Forum Highlights Moroccan Counter-Terrorism and Organized Crime Efforts

Rabat: Morocco’s experience in countering terrorism and fighting organized crime was spotlighted Thursday in Rabat, as part of the fifth session of the Morocco-France Parliamentary Forum. During a panel discussion on “security and the fight against terrorism and organized crime,” speakers praised the Kingdom’s efficient strategy in this area, based on the Royal Vision combining security effectiveness, commitment to human rights, strengthening spiritual security, and close international cooperation.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, Speaker of the House of Representatives Rachid Talbi Alami stated that Morocco, under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, plays a crucial role in the fight against terrorism, dismantling its cells and swiftly tackling its sources, in accordance with its national and international commitments. He also highlighted the Kingdom’s role in promoting the values of coexistence and rejecting hate speech, as well as in fulfilling its obligations within international organizations to foster dialogue between civilizations in the service of tolerance.

Talbi Alami emphasized that the fight against terrorism, violent extremism, and organized crime, which have become transnational phenomena, requires bilateral and multilateral international coordination and action. It also requires the adoption of clear legislation that guarantees human rights, including the right to life, security, and stability, based on a philosophy of coexistence, moderation, acceptance of differences, and pluralism.

In this regard, he praised the essential role played by the various security services, particularly for their vigilance, proactivity, and the sacrifices made by their personnel in the fight against terrorism. He also emphasized the role of the Mohammed VI Institute for Training Imams, Morchidines, and Morchidates in promoting the values of tolerance and moderation, noting that bilateral cooperation between Morocco and France has resulted in effective coordination that helped foil plots and dismantle terrorist cells that threaten the stability of nations and the security of people and property.

For his part, the governor, Director of Security and Documentation at the Ministry of the Interior, Laaroussi Baloua, emphasized that ongoing security vigilance has led to the dismantling of at least 220 terrorist cells and the arrest of more than 3,000 people since 2002. He considered that the terrorist threat, although structural, remains “fully under control,” noting that Morocco is at the forefront of countries adopting a proactive approach to combating this phenomenon.
