Rabat – Morocco and Senegal signed, here Monday, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to strengthen bilateral relations in sustainable development and energy transition.
Initialled by Morocco’s Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, Leila Benali, and Senegal’s Minister of Environment and Ecological Transition, Daouda Ngom, the MoU focuses on the exchange of experience, knowledge transfer, technical assistance and the development of joint projects in various fields recognized as being of particular importance to both parties, notably sustainable development governance, climate change, sustainable waste management and circular economy.
It is also part of the ongoing consultation and coordination between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Senegal, and will give new impetus to strategic cooperation projects in environment and ecological transition.
In a statement to the press, Benali said that this partnership reflects the solid relations between the two brotherly countries, adding that the agreement focuses in particular on environmental governance and circular economy.
According to the minister, this is an important step in strengthening cooperation between the two countries, which are already linked by several partnership agreements, helping to extend this partnership to the strategic areas of sustainable development and energy transition.
For his part, Ngom highlighted the fraternal and secular relations between Morocco and Senegal, noting that the agreement will enable both parties to work on several aspects linked in particular to environmental governance, fighting climate change and preserving biodiversity.
He also announced that a joint action plan would emerge from this MoU to implement all the points of the agreement, noting that the two countries would continue to work together to cooperate in international environmental negotiations.
