Rabat: Morocco clinched the 5th Mohammed VI International Polo Trophy on Sunday, defeating Egypt 5.5-4 in the final held at the Royal Guard Polo Club. Organized by the Royal Moroccan Federation of Polo under the High Patronage of HM King Mohammed VI, the tournament featured eight teams from countries with strong polo traditions, including the UK, the US, Spain, France, Oman, Azerbaijan, and Egypt.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, Morocco’s team, comprising Sidi Mohamed Elmhamdi, Zouhair Lachgar, Moulay Abdeslame El Hanafi, Mario Gomez, and Zaki Bouslikhan, trailed in the early stages but rallied in the third chukker to secure the win in front of a strong local crowd. The match was officially opened by Moulay Abdellah Alaoui, President of the Royal Moroccan Federation of Equestrian Sports.
Beyond the competition, the tournament aims to promote polo in Morocco, showcase the country’s sports infrastructure, and foster international sporting ties.
